Ethnologist Sascha Starec on interactive museums, radio and migration    
 
Sascha Starec is a Slovenian ethnologist visiting the Jugendmuseum Berlin-Schöneberg in order to gather some data so that the work on her PhD thesis can progress. In the course of her topic she compares the pedagogic methods applied in museums in Berlin to the methods used in Slovenian capital city – Ljubljana but also in Celje. The Berliner Jugendmuseum inspired her to establish her own small museum in her homeland that would resemble the German precursor. Moreover, Sascha mentioned an unknown story about migration of Slovenian women to Egypt. During the II World War, they were forced to leave their homeland and head for Egypt where they were given a job as
nursemaids by Jewish and Coptic families.

The Carolus-Magnus-Gymnasium located in Übach-Palenberg near Aachen is characterized with cultural diversity of the pupils and teacher.  On the occasion of a radio project the 8th and 9th grade students conducted interviews with their classmates so as to learn more about their family background and personal stories.

The profits from the involvement in the program concern not only the students for whom participation means greater career chances but also the modern European society benefiting from having experienced and aware young citizens. “Therefore youth should be given a chance to debate on different topics concerning their interest in order to examine the uniqueness of being an EU citizen”, Magi Shivarova said.

The Magic of the Bulgarian Voices

Songs involving two or more voices and melodies with some particular harmony belong to the world cultural treasures. Many young Bulgarians learn the folk music and promote it worldwide. An example can be a career of 15-year-old Anna Monika who comes from Bulgaria but nowadays she lives and performs in Canada. The young girl became so famous overseas that one Canadian television station made a movie about her creative activity. One of the documented events was her performance of Bulgarian folklore at the Carabram Festival of Cultures in Toronto.  Listen to Anna Monika from Canada and Valerie from the town of Pernik in Bulgaria!

The internationally well-known master of electronic music – Prof. Simo Lazarov and his students in Sofia and Tel Aviv appear on YCBS.

They will explain the history of electronic music and applying the innovative sound generation. The gramophone was pioneering for 20th century music which was followed by the invention of the synthesizer. But what about today?
